BIRD WATCHING IN THE LARGEST EUROPEAN DELTA (VD-01) |
![]() |
This tour is specifically designed for those who want a focused birding holiday whilst enjoying travelling to a remote and beautiful part of Russia – the Delta of the Volga River, the largest delta in Europe. The area of this south-easternmost corner of Europe uniquely combines the largest of Europe’s rivers, the Volga and the only sand desert in Europe. We have set our travel dates to coincide with the spring and fall migrations when most of the breeding birds of the area have returned or will be returning. The tour leaders are professional Russian ornithologists, who speak fluent English. Whenever necessary we also invite local guides who have extensive knowledge of particular areas we will visit. On most of our itineraries the walking is reasonably easy, with short or moderate walks. However, walking is an integral part of birdwatching and you should be able to cross rough grassland, marshes, woodland and climb small inclines.
