For many years the entrance to the hotel was closed to the public. It was always “the house for the elite”. Before the revolution the building served for London's governesses and then for professors of Moscow State university who stayed and worked here. After the war, this building became a serious hotel with the prestigious restaurant for the Soviet Government members and obviously, the doors of this building were closed for the rest. At the beginning of 1990's an Austrian firm turned this house into one of the finest hotels in Moscow which, in fact, became quite a different hotel in terms of equipment and services.
