Travel style: cultural journey
ITINERARY
Day 1. Arrival in St. Petersburg. Transfer to the hotel. Your first night in St Petersburg!
Day 2. After breakfast in the hotel, a bus tour around the city. You will see the major sights of St. Petersburg, including the Peter & Paul Fortress and the Church of Christ’s Resurrection (The Saviour of the Blood), which revives the traditions of 17th century Russian church building. You will also visit the famous cruiser Aurora; the legendary ship whose canon gave the signal, on the order of Lenin, for the beginning of the Great Social Revolution more than 90 years ago. On request we can also organise a boat cruise along the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg.
Day 3. We will visit the Russian Museum which is the world's largest museum of Russian art. The collection of the museum covers the entire history of Russian fine art from the 10th century to the present day, including a unique collection of Old Russian icons, works of painting, graphic art and sculpture, decorative and applied art, folk art and numismatics, as well as the world's finest collection of Russian avant-garde. Free time in the afternoon to explore the city on your own.
Day 4. We will visit one of the world famous museums, the Hermitage, housed in the former Winter Palace. The museum contains an enormous collection of Western Art, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Picasso and many other great masters. It also contains Historical, Russian and Oriental sections, which are definitely worth visiting. In the evening, you can enjoy a ballet or opera performance at one of the best St. Petersburg's theatres (tickets can be arranged on request).
Day 5. In the morning we will travel to Tsarskoye Selo, one of St. Petersburg's numerous Imperial estates. Strolling through the alleys of these parks, you will be fascinated with the views of whimsical lodges, elegant classical buildings, monuments executed in marble, exotic constructions designed to imitate the Gothic style, and also Turkish and Chinese styled buildings which lend the park a romantic air.
Day 6. After breakfast we will be transferred to the most famous palace in the suburbs of St. Petersburg – Petrodvorets built by Peter the Great. Best known for its glorious fountains and Summer Gardens, the palace is often compared to France's Versailles.
Day 7. Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to the airport for the flight back to the UK.
