High speed regular service between Moscow and St. Petersburg starts on 17 December 2009 with the launch of the new train “Sapsan” constructed in Germany by Siemens. Sapsan is also the name of a bird in the family Falconidae which is considered to be the fastest animal in the world with speeds over 200 mph.

The non-stop journey between the Two capitals of Russia: Moscow and St. Petersburg will take three hours and 45 minutes. There are seven 2nd class carriages, two 1st class carriages and a restaurant carriage. The train can carry up to 554 passengers, its speed is up to 250 kmh.
