A huge, well-designed, two-level club where the face controls keeps getting stricter.
It was the hottest spot in late-1990s in Moscow and then closed down several years ago. Now it's open again and is as elegant and over-the-top as ever. Housed in an 18th-century mansion (the name comes from its street address), it begs you to pose on the upper landing above the carved staircase or on the columned balcony. Good food, great guest DJs, but never enough barmen on duty to cater for large parties.

The interior of the club was designed with the help from the ‘British Andy Thornton Architectural Antiques Company’ that won Her Majesty's Award in 1994. They are the leading company in the field of authentic English design.
The ground floor represents a classic interior of an English pub. As for the 1st floor, it was designed especially for the club with the use of visual and decorative themes evoking images from different movies by Monty Python band musicians, mostly from "Brazil" by Terry Gilliam, as well as from science fiction B-movies from the 50s (Mad Professor's Library).
The club offers a large choice of musical events. On Fridays and Saturdays one can enjoy concerts by famous Russian rock-groups (mostly guitar music); On Thursdays, independent bands play music of various styles, such as electronic music, neo-classical music, world music, neo-jazz, etc.
Since the spring of 2000, the leaders of the world's avant-garde, electronic and alternative rock scene have performed in the club regularly.
DJ-culture is also represented in the club's programme. On weekends you can dance to club dance music (mostly disco-, funky-house, 2-step garage etc.). The disco may well be a masquerade, with Go-Go dancers and special actor guests entertaining the public. They hold regular theme parties.

The bar always pulls in a crowd, and usually by 21.00 the dance floor is filled with dancers looking to find their one true love, at least for the night anyway.
It's not a bad deal for cheap drinks and food. Every day from noon to 21.00, food is 50 percent off, making the slightly expensive menu (around £4-£6 a plate) extremely affordable. If you like pub food, this venue for after-work dinners and business lunches it's probably one of the best deals in town.
If you want to cheer for your favourite teams, surrounded by other natives of your homeland, then it's the place to be. Westerners will never feel far from home inside. The decor and interior are something that no Russian would ever dream up, not for lack of creativity, but just because he or she would find it culturally alien.

This club has made a good impression and a great showing since it opened 4 years ago. The club consists of a dance floor and a "chill out" room, a restaurant with a big comfortable bar and a banquet room.
The real centre of attention of the club is its round dance floor; it has the ability to rise and lower whilst it rotates and a shower of rain falls from the ceiling. The "chill out" room is equally impressive as well. It has suspended lights; fluffy artificial snow on the floor and a large number of beanbag chairs located everywhere. There are three bars and plenty of tables offering ample space for everyone. Music played in the club is mostly "Euro dance", but there is no tradition when it comes to the selection of music being played. It depends on the party and atmosphere and choice of the DJ. There is a lot of live music performed at Island.
A large banquet hall is located upstairs. Press conferences and business meetings are held here and a good place to bring friends for a special occasions. The portraits of celebrities who have visited the club are on the walls, Modern Talking, Marey Matieu, etc. During the warmer months of the year the club opens its summer terrace.

Without doubt you absolutely have to visit this club. In 2001 a Great British music magazine "Music" named Gribeodov one of the three best nightclubs in Russia. This club gained its popularity from the day it opened on the 18th October 1996. It gradually became an important center of modern art and music and some consider this club bohemian. Griboedov has earned its reputation by having high standards and being selective in choosing not only its performances but the audience as well. Progressive youth and mature adults come here a lot, not so much to dance but for interesting conversation, philosophical discussion, and more often for viewing the exhibition of alternative art.
The theatrical performances and shows take place in the club. Some evenings are dedicated to viewing new independent films or book presentations. Alternative and underground music dominate the stage. Different bands perform at Griboedov all the time. You will enjoy Ska, Reggae, Disco, Techno, Punk and Grunge music. The audience of Griboedov is very diverse, but all the club goers here are friendly and open minded. Foreigners frequent the club as well. Curiously, the club is located in what used to be an air raid shelter. Above it you can enjoy the outdoors in a glass walled summer cafe.
