Dear Traveller,
Stuck for ideas this Valentine’s Day?
If you’re looking to whisk your loved one away this Valentine’s Day but are looking for something a little more original than the usual tried and tested destinations, then why not try the city that’s been dubbed the Paris of the North, St Petersburg?
Valentine’s Day, marking romance and love, falls at the end of a long list of Russian celebrations: New Year, Russian Christmas, Russian New Year and Tatiana’s Day. You could be forgiven for thinking that by the time we reach February, Russians will have had their fill of special days, but since its adoption in the early 1990s, Russians have embraced St Valentine and all that goes with it.
And if there’s one city that offers the backdrop fitting of the most treasured of loved ones, it’s St Petersburg. Russia’s old capital is sophisticated, elegant and above all, beautiful. From the banks of its tree-lined canals rise mansions painted in a kaleidoscope of pastel shades. When they’re not dubbing this city Paris, it’s no surprise they’re calling it the Venice of the North.
Filling your days in St Petersburg is easy and at this time of year the city’s covering of snow adds that extra dash of wintry romance. While you’ll still find plenty of red roses in the city’s florists to present to the object of your affections, there’s no shortage of museums and palaces to explore when it’s time to head inside. In the evening, the city offers many special restaurants for you to host that celebratory candlelit dinner.
And if you’re thinking that it would be a good idea but for the pesky visa process, then you’ll be pleased to note that visits of 72 hours or less don’t require a visa at all so long as you arrive on a cruise ship or one of the ferries that cross the Baltic from the Finnish capital Helsinki. That’s easy to arrange. Why not give us a call with your requirements and let us make this a Valentine’s Day to remember?
С Днём Свято́го Валенти́на!
Happy St. Valentine's Day!

Straddling the River Dnieper, Kiev is a fascinating blend of old and modern. Representing Team Antiquity are the Golden Gates of Kiev.
