In the summer of 2012 in Berezovsky, a town just 12km north-east of Yekaterinburg, The Museum of Gold and Platinum Industries will open its doors to the public after more than four years of restoration work.

According to historians and archeologists, the very first evidence of gold found near the town of Berezovsky date back to the middle of the 18th century. Berezovsky's gold deposits are incredibly rich to the extent that gold is still mined there to this day. More than a thousand mines have been built in Berezovsky in the last 250 years. Currently only four of them are active, the rest are open purely for historical and tourism purposes.

It is reported that once the museum re-opens it will include a completely renewed collection. Berezovsky's gold and platinum museum will be the central attraction of a local tour route known as "Berezovsky - the Birthplace of Russian Gold".
